An Inspirational Tale

You may have seen the documentary about young English woman Katie Piper, and the vicious and cruel acid attack in 2008 that left a beautiful, confident woman scarred and traumatised.

The Daily Mail has shared Katie's inspirational recovery process after her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Lynch, arranged for another man to throw acid on Katie's face, after a break-up that he was not so happy about.

If you or somebody you know are worried or scared for your safety due to the actions of another person, contact the police or local authorities as soon as possible.
It is never ok to feel scared for your health or safety.

What. the.

No, really. What the you know what.

Thank you Go Fug Yourself for bringing this picture into my life; and to Rosanna Arquette and her stylist for daring to wear this disaster.

It just has a way of making all my bad mistakes seem a whole lot better!

And it only gets better (or worse depending on your sense of humour) from the back...

Wow.
I didn't even know that things like this were even thought of by designers, let alone produced!

My (Imaginary) Life in London

I've visited London before and its just
GREAT!
A whole city full of art, and history, and fashion and exploration, with easy access to so many other cultural areas.

Here's my picks for what I would wear to brighten up a dreary day in good ole' London
My Life in London

Do you live/have lived in London?
If you have please share what it is like to live in the city, rather than just visiting!

Jodi Gordon.. Sigh.

I have been deciding what I should do with my growing out bob, plain reddish-brown hair for a while now. Before I dyed my hair deep red brown about a year ago I had been blonde for a good 6 years... and I miss it now. I miss the vibrancy and the flair.
Now don't get my wrong I lurrrve the drama of dark hair, and I envy the way other people carry it off.
But folks, it's time for a change.

and this is what I want:

Australian actress Jodi Gordon from WHO's Sexiest People Party 2011

It seems to be a perfect combination of the brown I have now and the blonde I want to be.. plus it's bang on trend with the balayage hair style that is all over the place (but that I think will be over soon so better-get-on-the-bandwagon-now-so-I-don't-look-foolish-later).

Just how it compliments her bright pink skirt and lipstick and looks great with her tan.

Sigh, now get my butt to the salon and see if it's possible!

Edit*
I think I like it better in this picture.. a bit softer- more blended

Humbled.

The other month I dined with a blind man. It was humbling and eye-opening for me, and I don't think he has any idea. I feel the need to share this now, as abilities and enjoying life are in the forefront of my mind.

This man was a part of the church I visit and our meeting was awkward to say the least...He ran into me. Literally. I saw him coming, but completely oblivious to the white cane extending from his hand, I stood distracted, talking to my friends, until he bumped into my leg.

I turned and apologised, he swiftly replied, "Don't worry, my fault, should have been watching where I was going." Pause for shock on my behalf. Awkward.

After the sermon, which coincidently was about pride, humility and feeling humbled, a group of people from the church headed out to Leederville to a delicious Italian restaurant (Siena's if you live in Perth and are looking for AMAZING Italian), where the blind man was seated across the table from me... and I didn't know what to do. I didn't know his name (and still don't unfortunately), didn't know how to introduce myself, or how to start up a conversation when I didn't know how to get his attention without seeming rude or ignorant.

Yet, as the night went on and conversation perked up, I learnt many things about this man, he loves music. Absolutely loves it, and is so incredibly educated in music history and trivia, that even the contemporary music graduate and musician next to me was surprised by his knowledge.

I had to pick the mussels off his Pizza Marinara. He couldn't see them, and didn't want to put his hands all over the pizza toppings. Still, as I watched him eat his meal, I was humbled.

It's amazing how he went about the task of eating a pizza, a task that to me is simple enough, but to him, took time, patience and many accidentally empty forks.

On the drive home after dinner I could not get this man off my mind. The way he shines, and enjoys conversation and life, despite his disability was heartening in a way I did not expect.

From a night out with friends and strangers, I learnt to be more open with those who may seem different but come with many surprises and interests of their own, so I ask you, if you are reading this, do you suffer from any disabilities of any shape or form and how does this affect your daily life? Or if you know someone who lives with a disability or have had an encounter similar to mine, how did/does it affect you?

Tell her not get upset second guessin every thing you've said and done

Last week I heard a beautiful rendition of Robyn's 'Call Your Girlfriend' by Swedish vocal group Erato, and it blew. my. mind.

Here's the original version by Robyn:

And here is the cover by Erato:

This cover has received a lot of media attention and I'm loving this cover, just as much as I love the original song!

Three very different girls..

With three very different styles:

Girls Night Out

I would honestly love to wear any of these outfits, but they each give off a sense of character and mood, so occasion and feeling would have to be the decider!

How do you and your best friends dress?
Do you accidentally end up wearing the same thing or are you polar opposites when it comes to fashion and style?

Spring is in the air..

It's finally starting to feel like spring and I am loving colour blocking and mixing bright colours.
this has been seen all over the place lately, including the recent Melbourne Cup events...

So here is what I wish I was wearing today:

Jungle Dreamin

So how do you feel about colour blocking? Would you or have you tried it?
Will it stick around through summer?

Baby it's cold outside...

So I'm missing some summer outfits!

While it's winter and the days are cool I love to dream up some beautiful spring and summer outfits full of bright colours, floaty fabrics, fresh flowers, a big hat and my favourite essential.. dry shampoo! Honestly, if you haven't used dry shampoo before.. GET SOME NOW! It will change your life!

So while I'm here in ugg boots, 2 jumpers and a blanket,
be cheered by this bright day to night ensemble...

Freedom Loving

I love popping into Freedom every once in a while to see what they've got and to create rooms in my head from what they have on display. There's always something nice to find, and if you can mix them in with personal items or travel souvenirs Freedom furniture look really personal and interesting.

So here are a few of my current favourite Freedom finds...

Removable Wallpaper

I have quite the boring household walls as I am unable to paint in my current abode.

So picture this, honey gold walls. Everywhere, except funnily enough the bathroom, which has a nice moody dark grey which is rather delightful and definitely makes certain business more pleasant!

So I have been looking in to ways to liven up my bedroom walls and I think I may have found the non permanent answer to honey toned woes.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, temporary, removable wallpaper
from The Wallsticker Company.

At the moment I'm leaning towards ordering the modern yet subtle Curio & Curio Herringbone wallpaper...

but there is also his oh so sweet Curio & Curio Robin and Palm wallpaper...
(sensing a bit of a trend in the Curio & Curio? Me too! Think I may have to make a trip over to Sydney just to visit the store!)

Which would also be gorgeous in a little girls room.

There are all kinds of wall stickers from The Wall Sticker Company that I just adore (including the growingly popular and not to mention, educational world maps) and if I had enough wall space, I could quite possibly find a place for them all!

Here are some other worthy mentions...

You Gotta Believe in Something..

I first found English singer/songwriter Ria Ritchie by accident one late night of avoiding uni work, and I'm very glad I did stumble across her beautiful voice.
Check it out.

The 2011 TV Week Logie Awards, the good and the bad of the red carpet

It was Australia's "Night of Nights" again this weekend and all the best, and worst, Australian TV personalities made their way along the red carpet at the Crown Casino in Melbourne.

Here are my favourite outfits of the night...

A radiant and modern Shelley Craft

Beautifully feminine from Jessica Marais

A great colour on the stunningly pregnant Rebecca Judd

A sexy but slightly Gaga-esque dress for Asher Keddie

More glam than the Logies is used to, delivered by Ashleigh Brewer

This is a beautiful colour on Rachael Finch,
but the dress as a whole looks a little large

Zoe Ventura, stunning and reminiscent of Anne Hathaway at the Golden Globes earlier this year.

And making the Worst Dressed List...

Cheree Cassidy, I'm not even sure what this is.

Erin McNaught, great dress, great ring, great lipstick..
awful as a blonde.

Laura Dundovic... oh dear.
This could have been so beautiful without that print.

Esther Anderson, a beautiful woman and a great dress,
but the neckline looks like she is wearing a lobster that is trying to strangle her.

Oh Sarah Murdoch, I was expecting so much more from a beauty like you.

If you're in Australia, did you tune in to watch the Logies this year?
Or were you still recovering from the media rush that was the Royal wedding?

Dressing up.

Curtains. Blinds. Romans. Venetians. Shutters.

At the moment I'm looking for some new, amazing curtains.

Curtains can change the whole look and feel of a room. Add warmth, colour, sophistication and not to mention stylish privacy.

But lately, I've noticed more and more homes that are embracing a bare window and I'm totally diggin' the casual vibe.

Lovely, natural and simple.

Not a lot of privacy, but lots of light.

Totally amazing if you have a nice view.

Stools at the dinner table?

When I was little I would always choose my Grandmas fluffy green boudoir stool to sit on at family Christmas dinners. We had to use the stool because of the lack of "proper" seating. And I loved it, it felt so different and special.

And while I've seen many options for
dinner table seating, stools are an option I
have never really considered for frequent use.
No back support? Bad idea!

But this eclectic arrangement has totally opened my mind to stools!

They are definitely a great space saver, and with the choices between vintage and new, and the ease of changing and rearranging, little stools seem to be such an easy option!

And besides, if you do need a proper chair for some reason, stools are good for use all over the house.
Just like in this beautiful bathroom from Shannon Fricke

Just beautiful isn't it? So feminine and vintage but modern at the same time.

Or this minimalist study area where the wooden stool provides simple seating that adds that extra bit of warmth to an otherwise white room.

I think I sense my next new favourite seating option.

What do you think?
